It’s time to expect more from technology. The Lantos 3D Ear Scanning System is a state-of-the-art process for capturing digital 3D ear impressions, improving the quality and speeding up turnaround time of custom-fit hearing products while elevating the experience of impression taking. In approximately one minute per ear, the Lantos System quickly and comfortably captures data from the outer ear all the way down past the second bend of the ear canal. As soon as the scan is complete, a digital 3D image file of the ear’s geometry is ready to be uploaded to the cloud for the manufacturing of the full range of custom-fit hearing devices and solutions.  

How It Works

The Lantos Membrane, which mounts onto the tip of the Lantos Scanner, is inserted into the ear canal to within 4 millimeters of the ear drum, where it quickly and safely inflates until it conforms to the patient’s unique ear contours. The interior of the inflated membrane provides a uniform surface for scanning, enabling the rapid capture of over 1,000,000 data points per ear. The disposable membrane is designed for single patient use, which helps ensure maximum hygiene and patient safety during the impression-taking process.   

The LantosView™ software converts this data into a 3D model of the patient’s ear in real time, resulting in an incredibly reliable, accurate representation of the ear’s natural compliance. This digital proxy for the ear enables easy manufacturing of personalized hearing products that fit perfectly. 

Inside the Lantos 3D Scanning System


Lightweight yet sturdy, the Lantos Scanner features an ergonomically designed grip and intuitive button placement for easy use. A retractable camera at the tip of the device enables video-guided navigation for easy positioning and inflation of the membrane, as well as real-time visualization throughout the entire scan process.


The Lantos Membrane is made from a biocompatible, medical-grade material that is remarkably soft and stretchy. During inflation, it is filled with a water-based solution specially formulated to enhance light transmission. The surface of the membrane is covered with tiny black dots called fiducial markers. The LantosView software uses the fiducial markers to connect one image to the next, very much like taking a panoramic photo on a smartphone. In this way, the entire three-dimensional surface of the ear can be rendered.

As the membrane inflates, it gently pushes away hair and small amounts of wax, blocking ambient light and providing a blank canvas. This creates a controlled environment that is optimized for scanning.
